found art tuesday follow up

As promised . . . I’m posting this weeks Found Art Tuesday. First a story. Last week I was asked why I left last weeks envelope on the same tree and I replied “because I like the idea of the tree being like the tree in To Kill A Mockingbird, with treasures left on it. I drove down the alley this afternoon to see the tree and was SO SAD to see my envelope from last week still there. I figured it was because the first envelope clearly said in large print “FOUND ART” drawing a viewer in more. Last weeks piece might have given people the impression it was meant to be there and so left undisturbed. So after work I had matt drive by it again while I hopped out and grabbed it. I figured I would put it somewhere else, but when I opened it up there was a note inside (see below). I was ecstatic. My piece had become an interactive piece. Someone did check it out and took a prize from inside, one of my homemade buttons with a magnet back.

thanks for the magnet

So today to release this weeks Found Art Tuesday we drove out to St. Charles. I had been wanting to go to the photobooth and figured that would be a perfect place to leave it. I love photobooths so I figure that another photobooth fan would find the piece. We took some photobooth pics, left the piece then went out to eat, came back so that matt could check out the gumball machines, which were located nearby. I had forgotten entirely about the piece when I looked over and there were a couple of people near the photobooth and I noticed a girl was holding my envelope and looking inside (which had more buttons and moo cards). I was so excited and whispered to matt “oh my gosh, that girl, she got my thing” and matt was all “ugh? what are you talking about?” he had forgotten as well and so I had to say “my art, she found and took my art”, I hope that she liked it.

So in the span of one day I’ve had two semi-interactions with my found art. Exciting and scary. I’m getting better, eh? Are you proud of me Rosa, lol?

Hi, I'm Robyn and I was Hatched from a Kinder Surprise Egg. Graphic Designer by day, Maker of things by night. I have worked as a graphic artist professionally since I was 16 years old. Went on to get my Bachelors of Art from NIU. I like to share my Artwork online at flickr.com/photos/robayre and on my own personal website http://www.robayre.com. I also have an online shop http://www.robayre.etsy.com where you can find more of my "crafty" sorts of things, as well as a random piece of artwork here and there. Oh, and I'm also an occasional contributor to Artomat (artomat.org).

  1. i’m so inspired by your found art AND the fact that you got to witness people interacting with it! it must be super exciting.

i’m also intruiged . where is there a photobooth in st. charles? i thought all the ones around here were in the city.

  2. Well, you should contribute. Just check out the website linked above. Rosa is really great, feel free to drop her a line, I’m sure she’d love it.

As for the photobooth, it’s at the (almost extinct) Charlestown mall, outside the movie theatre. It is a traditional style photobooth, but with color pictures. They must have recently replaced it because the one there before had openings on either side, now it only opens on one side. The mall also has several of those yucky digital ones that adds backgrounds or texture to your picture to make it look like it was sketched, so you have to make sure you make your way to the theatre.

  3. I AM!!!!
How cool about the note! I am so proud of you my found art child.. LOL
Your art is so lovely and I would be so happy to find it, I get so much inspiration from the places you’re leaving your found art!
I still have issues with my computer and have a borrowed iBook and it’s like I just landed in Mars with no map… (I used to have an HP) I’m making the art but can’t upload it to the site yet, I’ll keep you posted!
good luck and keep the found art comin’

  4. HELLO! I found the art in the photoboth! It took me by surprise, and made me smile! I didn’t really get it at first, then I read the back. I really liked the art, it was very different and something I’ll never forget, I took it home and shared it with my boyfriend Matt, he thought it was very creative as well. I had found the art with his daughter Kaiya, she’s 5 and didn’t really understand it, she liked the sand part on the envelope and wanted to cut out that piece, we told her that it’s art and somebody made it, she stoped asking to cut it out… There were 3 buttons inside and there are 3 of us! I really like what your doing, it’s an interesting idea! Art is all around!

  5. I sent an email, but just in case it didn’t work: Hi Corina! Thanks for stopping by my website and leaving me a note. This is the first time someone has contacted me back about finding a piece so I am very excited. I am so glad that you found the Found Art Tuesday piece. How perfect that it worked out, 3 buttons for 3 of you, it must have been meant to be . Thanks again!
