Cutting a sketchbook in half

Cutting a sketchbook in half

Cut a sketchbook in half
Little video explanation

Earlier this week I had an idea 💡

I had this ancient horizontal Moleskine watercolor sketchbook that I finished. I couldn’t find a quick replacement, so I made a few watercolor sketchbooks myself, but none of them stuck. I remembered the Strathmore mixed media sketchbook I also recently finished. It’s not a watercolor sketchbook but it holds up for the watercolor I do, and has a really nice weight and texture to each page.

I decided to buy one of the mixed media sketchbooks and cut it in half.

I knew it would be similar in scale to the Moleskine, but I had no idea just how close it was. It’s perfect, and now I have two. At first I thought about asking a coworker to just cut it in half for me on the commercial paper cutter but then I thought the binding might nick the blade, and I’m handy with a pen-knife. It took a bit of elbow grease, but I was able to cut through it and now I have two sketchbooks with trusted paper that I know I will love and use.

I immediately took to painting my cover page with the time of my birth (as usual)
