A Leap Into Advertising

I’m supposed to be at my art group meeting right now, but instead I sit at the computer for probably the 4th hour in a row. I’ve just been adjusting and editing photos, posting pictures and entering information online for what seems like forever.

I’ve decided to take action in my first attempt of real online advertising with space of my own at Poppytalk Handmade. I applied and was accepted to be part of the “Love Transforms” market from January 12th -February 13th. I had to have all my items listed and linked, etc. by tomorrow. This wouldn’t have been such a chore, had I not needed to add many items to my etsy shop, as well as find original photos from older etsy items, sans my watermarks. This is something I’ve heard over and over, that I shouldn’t use watermark on my images at etsy, but in this day and age, it is so easy to be ripped off and that fear is always overhead.

I’m excited for the market to open and I hope it will generate sales, but I’m not holding my breath. I have everything finished and now I’m anxious about the quality of my product pictures. Check out Poppytalk and it can be pretty intimidating. I would swear that the other sellers can’t just be single persons selling their handmade wares, they must have a company of people shooting their products with professional gear and equipment.

Above is a 6.25″ painting that was part of my art show and is currently listed in my shop. It might look familiar. It will also be found on poppytalk handmade on the 12th.

Hi, I'm Robyn and I was Hatched from a Kinder Surprise Egg. Graphic Designer by day, Maker of things by night. I have worked as a graphic artist professionally since I was 16 years old. Went on to get my Bachelors of Art from NIU. I like to share my Artwork online at flickr.com/photos/robayre and on my own personal website http://www.robayre.com. I also have an online shop http://www.robayre.etsy.com where you can find more of my "crafty" sorts of things, as well as a random piece of artwork here and there. Oh, and I'm also an occasional contributor to Artomat (artomat.org).

  1. Wow, this is fantastic! I hope it works out well for you. This is the 1st time I heard of Poppytalk. Thanks for sharing. It’s such a pretty site. Looks like it should bring a lot of folks to your shop. Good Luck!

  2. Good luck. I’d say that I would keep my fingers crossed that this will lead to greater things for you, but then you don’t need luck with all the talent and hard work you’re putting into your artbiz. I know it will lead to a lot of sales. Congratulations!
